Me and Wife submitted separate federal returns

My domestic partner and I read that we had to submit separate federal tax returns. So we filed our own individual federal returns. We found out later how to do our California state taxes (married filing jointly) and now can’t submit our state return because our “federal taxes have to be accepted first”. Our federal returns were accepted a week ago. But we still can’t file our state taxes cause the program keeps saying our federal taxes have to be filed first. Any way around this?

No.  You not be able to e-file a joint state return after e-filing a separate federal return.  You will need to print/mail the joint state return.
