KS STATE TAXABLE SOCIAL SECURITY BENEFITS

Hello!

I am trying to complete my KS state taxes, but I keep getting prompted to enter the other state I lived in on an Other State Tax Credit Worksheet. However, I am not able to choose the other state (Nevada) because it is not on the drop down menu list. How do I proceed?

Thank you!

You must have attempted to complete the credit for tax paid to another state, which does not apply to you. So, TurboTax wants to know what state is the other state.

You can review your entries in the Kansas return and look for Taxes and Credits to see if you can find the Credit for Taxes paid to another state and reverse that choice. Also, you can look at the forms in your program to see if you see the schedule and delete it as follows:

  1. Tax tools (on the left menu bar)
  2. Tools
  3. Delete a form

As you know, Nevada does not have an individual state income tax, which is why it's not on the pulldown menu.

But we need to ask why TurboTax think that you do.

Did you live part of the year in Nevada? In the Personal Info/My Info section, did you enter both states?

Do you have a W-2 or 1099 that has NV in the box for state code?

We need to turn off the trigger for this question.

Yes, exactly half a year in each state. And yes, I entered both in the personal info at the beginning. And yes, I have a W-2 (NV only) and 1099 (some for NV; some for KS). Most were paid while in NV, except interest (only KS) and social security benefits (both states). What can I do to bypass this notice? Thanks!
