During this tax season, I had to prepare my federal taxes on Turbotax and mail it to the IRS because my wife doesn't have an SSN or an ITIN number, and since she only qualifies for an ITIN number (because she's not a citizen and unemployed), I had to apply for an ITIN number for her and this is the first time we file as a "Married Filing Joint". Today, we received my wife's ITIN from the IRS, and I want to continue e-filing my state tax return on Turbotax but it seems that TurboTax wants to e-file both the federal and state taxes! I only want the state tax to be e-filed because I already mailed the IRS my fed taxes (I don't want them to have duplicate returns).
In my TurboTax account, near the federal taxes docs, it says "Federal Printed, Ready to Mail". Does that mean if e-file my taxes on TurboTax, only the state tax returns will be e-filed, or both Fed and State?
Thank you very much.

You cannot e-file the state. A state return can only be e-filed if the federal return has been e-filed and accepted. You already mailed the federal return. You cannot e-file federal now. Your state return will also have to be filed by mail.
