I'm in the US Navy and my state of residence is Florida. I moved from Florida to Virginia on 2 Dec 2016. I am still active duty and my stat of residence remains Florida

I moved on 2 December to Virginia, but my stat of residence is still Florida.  When asked if i've lived anywhere else in 2016 what do I put?  My state of residence is Florida and remains Florida

Actually, for ease of completing your 2016 tax return, it would be more expedient to tell the TurboTax program that you did not "live" in any other state, aside from the state of Florida, in 2016.  The reasons for this are as follows.

Active duty military members are normally taxed on their military wages by their "home state" of record when they enter the military.  Florida, however, has no personal income tax system.  So you'll never have to pay any income taxes there on your military pay (or on any other wage income for that matter).

The state of Virginia, although it does have an income tax system, does not tax the military pay of nonresidents stationed in Virginia.  You can confirm this fact at the following Virginia Department of Taxation webpage:

https://www.tax.virginia.gov/military-tax-tips

So, unless you had an "off-base" or "side job" working in a civilian occupation during December, 2016, in Virginia, or you earned some other Virginia-source taxable income, then you won't (legally) need to file a Virginia state tax return at all.  Thus, it would simply be easier to indicate to TurboTax that you were a full-year Florida resident (which is 100% true), and then to also indicate that you had no other income from any other state (unless you actually did).

When done correctly in TurboTax, your screens should resemble the images in the picture files attached to this answer.  Simply click the images to open.

Thank you for asking this important question; and on behalf of all the veterans and non-veterans working at TurboTax, we also thank you for your military service.
