My full time college student and 22 yr old daughter is required to fill out form 8615. She doesn't get financial help from anyone and nobody else is claiming her as a dependent and she will be checking the box that states nobody else can claim her on her tax return. Out of her mother and step dad and myself (her mother and I are divorced), which of us would she use the tax info from to fill out the 8615 form?
She stayed with me when she's not at university all of last year but her mom and step dad declared her as a dependent the previous tax year (2019).
Thanks!

Your post says that she is not a dependent so presumably she earned enough to provide more than half of her support. If true, she should not have to deal with Kiddie tax.
As of 2020, the kiddie tax applies to all children aged 19 and under, as well as children who are dependent full-time students between the ages of 19 and 23
She gets financial aid and student loans on top of working during the summer. She also received unemployment for the last 4 months, would that cause her to have to file the form 8615? Thanks in advance for your help!
Unemployment income would definitely trigger the Kiddie but not for someone who is not a dependent. Be sure she checked the box that said no one else can claim her.
Thank you so much for your help, we are going to see H&R Block on Monday so we can make sure everything is done correctly but in the meantime, thanks to you we don't have to stress about it. Thanks so much!
