I cant seem to find an answer as to why turbo tax is saying my son doesn't qualify for the CA EITC when his income is less than 30K and he qualified for it the last two years. According to the list of qualifications, he should qualify. the income is from a W2 and he has lived in CA his whole life.

AGI limit is $21,430 if single with no children.

ok.  I was just going by the basic requirements when you check the franchise tax board info on CA.GOV site which says 30k max but his income is less than 21K as well. If I use the chart on the FTB CA.gov site, he should qualify. I'm thinking there is something turbo tax is missing or a glitch in their program. His tax info is very basic. just the W2 from the job he has had for a few years. nothing else.

I'm not claiming him as dependent. I file his taxes for him. he is disabled.

There could be any number of reasons that a particular taxpayer might not qualify for the California Earned Income Tax Credit.

Did your son possibly have investment income of more than $4,053 during the year?  That would disqualify him.

Please see the Specific Instructions in 2021 Instructions for Form FTB 3514 California Earned Income Tax CreditRevised: 02/2022 for specific requirements.

You can also use the EITC Calculator on the California Earned Income Tax Credit and Young Child Tax Credit page to verify whether or not your son qualifies and, if so, for how much.
