Per the email it says my state return was rejected due to:

What happened

CA_CharitableContributions_Hold - Your tax return was rejected due to an issue with California Charitable Contributions

I went back through my state return and it all looked fine to me. I’m guessing there is some glitch in the system because it says to come back the 17th or after and go through your state return and fix any prompts. Anyone else having this same issue?

Yes! After 3 rejections and feeling much like I was in high school when asking girls to the dance, finally figured it out. You will have to go through your state returns again, once you see the question about “Charitable Contributions” you must enter 0 and do not leave it blank once I did that they were finally accepted. Credit goes to another user in this vlog I learned from him

@Montydagreat Where is the "Charitable Contributions" question on the State.  I've been looking not finding it.  Thanks.

I didn't find charitable donations in my State return.

Oh lord. Me, too. I tried to decrease the amount of contributions in federal. I guess I’ll just mark them all zeros and try it again. I have had the state one rejected twice.

@sasa22  So when you download your return line 12b is $0 or blank?

Yes I do. I have the same message and don’t know what to do about. TurboTax couldn’t help and ask to come back today!

Yes!  Same thing happened to me.  Resubmitted two other times but still the same rejection.  What worked is today, I deleted the first CA return, and started over and filed again. That’s it.  It worked!  Try that all!  Good luck!

@sanchrist1  You didn't make any changes to your CA return, just delete, start over and refile?  I may try that.

Nope, nothing! Just deleted the first one and started over.  Accepted in a few hours later!  Good luck!

Yep. I used turbotax and e-filed twice, rejected twice. I keep getting message from Turbotax saying it's all good. But I can't display my actual forms. HELP!!!

I think the update they pushed yesterday did fix it but in order to get the fix you really had to delete the state return and start over. My return using the zero out care act charitable contributions was just accepted by simply zero'ing it out and re-running the state review.

Third time lucky. Finally accepted without fixing anything. Appears that TT did indeed provide a fix for the problem sometime today.  Thanks everyone for the advice.

I have the same issue. I have corrected it, but I am unable to refile just the CA return. It asks me to file both federal and state together. But my federal tax is already accepted. How do people file just the state return? I am using the Mac version of the software.

Hi just file it together but it will only file your ca return not your fed because it’s already been accepted ( if accepted) I hope this helps

Yes, for KY. Have redone KY 2X including line by line with a Turbo Tax person who said to 'just refile'. It also got rejected (KY state.) Turbo Tax has not been much help at all.

3 rejections and given the same answer for the 17th of Feb--rejected again.  Called Turbotax and was told to mail return.

No, Go to feberal side. you must go thru the flow not just go to income or deduction to find it you wont.

After in feberal sie go to wrap up income. Keep going until it ask you to select standard or itemize deduction. The next screen will ask you about Charitable Contributions for line 12 b in california. This should work for other states also.

Mine was rejected 3 times and Customer Service had no answer (even sent tax forms for them to view).

Solution:

1.  Open Federal and make sure it is transmitted, and refunded first.

2.  Go back to Federal and go through Easystep and stop when it asks for a charitable contribution amount (after it asks whether you want to itemize or use standard deduction.  Following that you should see pop-up question asking for a charitable contribution amount.  If it had $300 or $600--change to $0.

3.  Do not attempt to resubmit Federal Return

4.  Go to State and follow through with Easysteps (you probably  don't have to change anything).  Submit and Transmit return.

Mine was accepted in less than 12 hours yesterday (19 February and they had no updates that day)--still waiting on refund (the same amount I had the first time).

You either need to save your Federal Return as it was originally or make a note discussing the differences and why (removing the $300 or $600 will reduce you refund a bit but within the tax table rates for a $300 or $600 increase in income.  Y

You are not cheating--you are doing TurboTax's job!
