Possible Two State Filing

Trying to file taxes in Alabama and the state taxes have been rejected. We lived in TN the prior year. Midway through the past year my wife received a check from her previous job in TN and it was mailed to our AL address. Our residency had long been changed to AL when this check was received and no state taxes were taken out on this check since it was a TN job. Do we need to file two separate state refunds because it is causing an AL rejection?

TN has no state income tax so you do not have to file a TN return.

You would think that, but then when I complete the tax filings for Alabama through TurboTax it gets rejected because of the disparity in state taxes paid in AL. There is a section that asks if income is earned in another state and has three sections to fill out: Double-Taxed Income of TN, Adjusted Gross Income of Tennessee, Tax Paid to TN. 2 of the 3 of those will be 0 I would think. In the "Learn More" option of that section it says to file state taxes in that state first, but of course when you try to purchase TN form filing through TurboTax it says its not needed unless dividends are over $2500. And so our state taxes keep getting sent back as rejected. I'm not sure what to do.
