I only worked in North Carolina for a few weeks and I live in Tennessee. How do I file on only the money I made in North Carolina and not on what I made in Tennessee. This is ridiculous your program keeps telling me I owe money in North Carolina???? I don’t live there I only work there

Yes, you most likely owe the State of North Carolina taxes and must file a North Carolina tax return.
In TurboTax, you will be able to file so that just the money that you earned in North Carolina gets taxed there.
You are required to file in NC if you receive NC source income while a non-resident and income from all sources equals or exceeds resident filing requirements. 2019 Filing requirements for NC are: Single - $10000, Married Filing Jointly - $20000, Head of Household - $15000.

I didn’t earn over 10000.00.
I cannot believe that I owe NC tax money on my income from my 401k payout in Tennessee and my previous jobs in Tennessee. I do not now or have never lived in North Carolina. My employment in North Carolina was for only 2 weeks before the end of the year. No way am I paying them taxes on my money I earned in Tennessee. This makes no sense to me. Someone please explain to me why North Carolina has any right to money I earned in my home state. I am totally confused. I already owe the IRS because I had to withdraw my 401k to pay for my cancer diagnosis. This stinks.
You only pay income tax in your resident state for retirement income so if you never lived in North Carolina they cannot tax it. Because you worked in North Carolina, if you are required to file a nonresident state tax return you would be able to allocate the NC income in TurboTax. Note: North Carolina can include your 401k payout to determine your tax rate (percentage) but it can only apply that rate to the North Carolina income.
