Here's a step-by-step guide to add Pennsylvania to your wife's state return in TurboTax:
Hi, I've done that and the issue is, that since PA is not listed in box 15 of her W-2, Turbo Tax doesn't pull her W-2 into the state return. Her income, however, is taxable in PA so I need to include it. There is no option to "add another w-2" within the state process. However, if I add PA to box 15 of her W-2 (which I'm not sure is allowed) it does pull in. Hopefully that helps clarify the issue. It's basically a gap in the software where I can't get her W-2 added to the state return as no state information is present on the W-2 (box 15, 16, 17). Thanks
It will not "hurt" anything if you change the W-2 to PA since there were no withholdings. So, yes, you can make the change on the W-2.
However, as you walk through the PA return, you should see a compensation summary. ON this summary, you can select edit and then add that income to the PA amount by selecting I need to make an adjustment to the taxable amount of this income if you are sure it is NOT included in the PA income.
If PA is selected as your home/resident state, this income should be automatically included as PA would tax ALL income from ALL sources regardless of the state it was earned in.
