My wife is German w/ no U.S. income. We live in Germany. I am paying my NY taxes, and it wants my wife's AGI for the NY State Info Worksheet. What do I put? 0?

DoI HAVE to give her income, which is in Euros and has no connection whatsoever to the U.S.A.?

Need to add: She did NOT file a U.S. return, even though I am listed as Married Filing Separately. It also wants to know how many Dependents she is claiming in her US forms, but again, she is not filing them.

If you are filing as Married, Filing Separately and your wife has no U.S.income and no U.S.return, then, for NY tax purposes, her AGI is "$0".

The answer for her "dependents" is the same - "0".

NY is asking this question to make sure you aren't using "separate filing status" to get deductions and credits you (or your wife) don't qualify for, either from NY or another state. Since your wife isn't subject to U.S. (or NY) taxes and you are filing separately, her information is not relevant to your NY tax return.
