According to the California Employment Development Department (EDD), The SDI withholding rate for 2022 was 1.1 percent. The taxable wage limit was $145,600 for each employee per calendar year. The maximum to withhold for each employee was $1,601.60.
If your W-2 shows SDI withholding greater than the maximum for 2022 from a single employer, then you would need to contact the employer for a refund of any excess withheld and enter the maximum allowable withholding.
If you have W-2's from multiple employers that together withheld more than the maximum, you may be eligible for a credit. See the discussion in this thread for more information.
An issue has been reported regarding the calculation of the excess SDI credit for California. If you received a notice from California and would like the calculation accuracy investigated, you can file a claim. See this help article for more information.
