Missouri does not tax Social Security payments no matter how much income you have besides Social Security (as of Jan1 2024).
I enter all my income and deductions (except for S.S. payments) into Turbo Tax and have a small state refund. When I enter in my S.S. income for the year it says I owe over $1,000.
How do I find out if this is correct or not?

Did you enter the SSA-1099 in the right place?
Federal Taxes (Personal for Home&Business)
Wages and Income
Then scroll down to Retirement Plans and Social Security
Then the second line - Social Security (SSA-1099. RRB-1099) - click the Start or Revisit button
You can switch to Forms Mode, click Forms in the upper right and look at the state return.
Yep... I purposely entered all my other income info first (interest, W2, etc.) and then went to the SSA-1099 section. As soon as I enter that info, the state MO refund box spins into the red.
Do you think it could be because they haven't updated the MO tax form yet? 2024 is the first year for the new rule to go into effect.
UPDATE - Here is what TurboTax is saying about Mo state tax on S.S.
Taxable social security benefits from Federal Form 1040
Select the appropriate filing status and enter the amount on Line 4. Married combined (joint federal) - $100,000
Here's what MO state says:
Removing the Missouri adjusted gross income limitation from the social security/social security disability deduction will result in 100% of all social security benefits no longer being taxed in Missouri for individuals who are 62 years of age or older.
TurboTax is treating any of my reported S.S. income on my Federal form as taxable when it comes to state taxes. They are using the rules from 2023.
Yup.
