Missouri State E-filing and online pay

Filing this early I'm sure it will be fine and probably won't take as long as some did.  Most of us on this string last year were filing in April and concerned about getting late fees but it all proceeded smoothly, just takes some time.  But thanks for the post so we know to expect the same thing this year!

And it is now 2023 and the same problem exists. Turbotax needs to address this.

I efiled and submitted payment information for direct debit of what I owe to Missouri and Turbotax still says I need to submit the voucher with payment.

@stlsteve60 If you have read through this thread, you'll know that this is NOT a TurboTax issue.  Instead, it is a Missouri Department of Revenue issue.  I'd bet that the outcome will be the same this year, too.  Sure wish the Missouri DOR would get their act together.

Kat,

I agree that this is simply a status issue on the part of MODOR.  Also, while the MO-1040 form doesn't have fields for putting Routing/Account numbers for paying the Amount Due, the TurboTax Electronic Filing Instructions for your Missouri Tax Return does show that information on Page 1 in the Balance Due / Refund section as seen below:

Your Missouri state tax return (Form MO-1040) shows a balance due of $XXX.XX.
Your return shows you have elected to pay your balance due of $XXX.XX
by Direct Debit using the following information:
- Amount Withdrawn: $XXX.XX
- Account Number: XXXXXXXXXXXX
- Routing Transit Number: XXXXXXXXX
- Date of Withdrawal: XX/XX/XXXX

I guess I didn't print out the TurboTax electronic filing instructions, at the time.  Is there a way to access this, after the fact?  I'd like to see something that confirms that I did, indeed, enter my banking information correctly.

*** Great... glad you figured it out!  ***

You should be able to go back into TurboTax, click on the File Tab and then click Print and Save Your Tax Return.  I usually save the pdf version on my computer for reference.

@thunderdanryno You "should" find that the first page of the PDF of your tax return is a Summary Page.  That page should include the information of how you chose to make payment due.  The state return should also have this Summary page.  NOTE:  In 2021 returns, this Summary page was missing.  No explanation of why, but it just was no longer in the PDFs.  I haven't yet heard reports of the 2022 returns.  Hoping that this was resolved during the off-season!

I'm sharing below the instructions (titled reviewing your direct deposit instructions), but the same instructions will get you to the Summary page.  You should also find your payment information on the Summary page.

Where can I find my direct deposit account information after I've e-filed?

Well, I think I might be charged twice this year. Submitted taxes for MO with a debit requested date of 02/04/2023, but the payment never came out from my account as of 02/09/2023. I then figured I would need to pay manually (I also got the notification that I had to print out MO-1040V and pay manually, which confused me). Made my payment online a few hours ago through MO DOR, which will include the .50 fee.

Is there a way to prevent Turbotax/MO DOR from debiting my account for the original payment amount? It's taken them long enough to debit my account by now.

Mine was finally direct-debited yesterday (February 8th). My payment date (that I requested) was January 26th.

So, I would say that 2 weeks is the turnaround time. I’m sure it’ll get longer, as we approach April.

@oscarnoel2 Oh shoot! I don't think there's a way to cancel a direct debit through TurboTax.  But you may be able to contact your bank and explain what's happened.  They may be able to "block" the additional debit since you've already made payment.  So sorry you're having to deal with this.

I've read through most of the messages posted here on this topic.  While I know for the most part this is an issue with State of MO, why do we get STILL (in 2023, for 2022) get a "partial" instruction from Turbo Tax to print out the voucher form, if we have in fact e-filed and paid amount due with direct deduction?

I understand this is from prior to MO changing their  process in Feb 2022.  Why aren't this year's instructions updated?

Thanks All!

You can pay through TurboTax. Verified here - https://dor.mo.gov/faq/taxation/individual/efile.html

Why the heck does TRBO tax know this info about Missouri not accept payments via a software, what good is it to use TRBO Tax if they are not up to speed on payment info with the States.   We pay extra for this TRBO Tax to have this info in the software and them not knowing it makes me want to switch software companies.  This info and link to the MO Revenue site where you pay the tax due.   TRBO Tax needs to get it together.

Apparently, Intuit doesn't care about this bug.  People had this same issue a year ago. I submitted the information for electronic payment, yet, Turbotax Home & Business printed a payment voucher and stated that it must be submitted. So, I checked the summary sheet at the front of the State return, and it shows that the payment is to be paid from my bank (not in those words). I'm going to trust but verify. I will check my bank account to see that payment is withdrawn. We're dealing with Government, so I expect slow. I will wait at least a month.

The software has to follow state rules. Some states say you have to print a paper, sign it and keep it. Some say print a voucher, each state has their unique circumstances. While MO may choose to participate in the banking system, they might prefer it mailed or they may be thinking of a potential crash. I could not begin to guess why some of these rules exist.

MO should withdraw the money. You are right to give them plenty of time. If something odd happens and the money is not pulled from your account by the due date, pay them.
