Sent in a very simple form for our kid to get a few bucks back from 2023 working.
it was rejected. . . wrong AGI. We looked on the pdf; it is the right amount.
However, we can not find an email saying it was accepted, or we can not find the exact amount of federal return sent back to his checking or savings account.
Our kid got back a very small amount from the state last year; we can find that!
I think we completely forgot to file 2022 taxes for him! What is the next step?? can we file both 2022 and 2023 together? need to file 2022 first?
please share what you might know!

Enter a 0 for the 2022 AGI if the 2022 federal tax return was not filed.
thank you! that makes sense.
when would we file the 22 return? after 2023 return? Or should we do this first?
we also think we did not file our other kid's; but know she got back a state return.
our 2022 turbo tax software doesnt open -- any ideas on this all? i appreciate your thoughts!
@BeKind6 You can file the 2023 tax return now and file the 2022 tax return after the 2023.
The 2022 tax return can now only be printed and mailed so it will take the IRS anywhere from 4 weeks to several months to process the 2022 tax return.
Did you complete the 2022 tax return using the TurboTax online editions and just did not file or is there more that you need to enter on the return?
you are so helpful.
for kid #1, we think we did not file federal 22. . . but saved the file in a pdf. So - we will print that out and send it in. we did file state for that kid. thank you again for that info.
for kid #2, we are not finding a pdf for her taxes. . . just a desktop file from the turbo tax 2022 application, which will not open in turbo tax 2023. she is looking through her emails, and bank accounts to see if that was actually filed.
we just confirmed we filed parents federal (yes!) and other kid's (yes!) last year. We must have gotten distracted!
