I live out of the Kansas City area but work for a truck driving hiring company that is in Gladstone Missouri. I am contracted to a freight company at the MCI airport, I believe it is in the 64153 area code, where I pick up the truck and trailer and deliver out of town. Do I owe the Kansas City earnings tax?

Yes.
If you live in Kansas City you pay the earnings tax even if you work outside the KC area.
Here is the Kansas City Earnings Tax info.
I'm not a tax expert but have been studying the KC earnings tax questions for my own reasons and they have several examples of different scenarios. It sounds like if you lived elsewhere, the loads were picked up elsewhere and delivered elsewhere and only the truck was garaged in kc the business wasn't really conducted in KC and would not be taxable to KC. I wouldn't think the garaging of the truck would be counted as the income producing activity. I'd love to hear an expert's reply to this.
I agree with you that the garaging of the truck is not income producing. You have an expense in KC which is the rent of space for the truck. This does not require you to file a KC income tax return.
You stated that you live and work outside of the KC area.
All Kansas City, Missouri, residents are required to pay the earnings tax, even if they work outside the city. Nonresidents are required to pay the earnings tax on income earned within Kansas City, Missouri, city limits. The tax also applies to the net profits of businesses.
