I am a resident of VA, I worked in CA as a non-resident for most of 2021, till about Sept 2021. Then in mid-November went back to the previous company but now based out of NY. I did my taxes and my W2 box 16 seems like it could be off since it implies paying a lot of state taxes to NY.
Box 16 is more money in NY (looks like whole time at company) while my CA is only a portion (looks more correct). Shouldn't my NY #16 be only the 6 week portion of my income.
Example(not real numbers):
Total income 53,000
CA State: 45,000
VA: 51,000
NY: 53,000
Shouldn't NY be closer to $8,000?

No. New York requires employers to report all your wages everywhere in W-2 Box 16. But that's NOT what you have to pay tax on.
To enter the New York wages:
I am using the desktop version; it doesn't seem to let me only mark 30 days as worked in NY. Is there a glitch in the desktop verses the online?
You can enter 30 in Number of days in period of employment. This is the total number of days you were in New York. On the next screen you will have to subtract weekends, holidays, etc. during that 30 day period.
