1) It might be doing that if you had VA taxes withheld in error by yoru employer in boxes 15,16,17 of yoru W-2
If not that
2) On the My Info page, (and no VA taxes were withheld)...you DO NOT indicate you worked in another state.....take VA out there. For a MD resident working a W-2 job in VA....it is all treated as-if you only worked in MD.
I had VA taxes accidental withheld in 2019 but it’s been correct since then. My issue is that I feel Turbo Tax should know that if I work in MD I don’t have to even file VA taxes. Because I trusted TurboTax, I bought the VA state and the last two years mailed it in because it says it can’t file them electronically. At no point did it say ‘you don’t need to fill out VA taxes’ so I have paid two or three years without needing to, and the only reason I figured it out is that I looked it up. I wanted them to verify I wasn’t misunderstanding what I read but I can’t find any email and when I try chat it says no one is there, so I posted here.
thanks for your response, it confirms that I shouldn’t have to pay for the extra state versions.
