As long as you have filed a timely return with NJ, and requested that your payment be direct debited on or before the deadline, you should be fine. You'll have proof of your filing on the "Electronic Filing Instructions" page of your NJ PDF. And if, by chance, your NJ return is rejected (keep an eye on your email), you have until April 23 to correct and re-submit your return.
What if my return is still pending or rejected on April 18?
Actually I see no timestamp for the filing of the NJ return in the PDF. The electronic postmark applies only to the Federal return. For that reason, I filed an extension for my NJ return since it too was stuck in a Pending state for a long time. It got accepted this morning, April 19.
@wnetmw On the PDF of your state tax return, the first page should be "Electronic Filing Instructions". This sheet should also be the first page of the PDF of your federal return.
Those filing instructions show how you elected to pay your state tax liability, and also the date that you scheduled it. So you do have proof that you scheduled a timely payment as long as you have that page of the PDF.
I see my NJ return was accepted today April 20th will I see the payment being deducted from my bank account as I had it listed to be auto debited on April 18th. Do I need to amend payment date and how?
@Kat I have the state "Electronic Filing Instructions" PDF and I see NO date at all on that page. Please tell me where to look. Maybe it does not show on my version of TurboTax?

If you e-filed the federal and state tax return, the state tax return filing instructions page will have how you chose to pay the state taxes owed. The page will be labeled Electronic Filing Instructions for your 2021 New Jersey Tax Return
What is shown on the page?
@wnetmw The screenshot you posted shows you have a state tax refund and applied the refund amount to the 2022 taxes. You do not have 2021 state taxes owed.
The question was where is there proof of the date of the state e-filing? I contend there is none.
That was my whole point of filing for an extension. If there is proof then I won't have to do so next time.

Since you had a tax refund the due date of the 2021 tax return is not relevant. A tax return with a refund can be filed at any time up to three years from the due date. So what you requested on the state tax return will be applied to the 2022 state taxes as long as the 2021 return was filed during 2022 and the state has accepted your state tax return.
Click on the File menu at the top left of the desktop program screen. Click on Electronic Filing>Show Electronic Filing Status History
The date/time the state return was accepted by the state should be listed.
I looked at my previous PDFs where I owed taxes to NJ. There is NO date of state e-filing there either. The date of e-filing would be relevant in that case. TurboTax should include the date of state e-filing on that first page but it isn't there now.
I also checked the Electronic Status Filing History. The date/time of NJ accepting the return is NOT there.
I have the exact same issue; eFiled on April 14, taxes due for deduction on April 15th. But the return is still pending acceptance. Based on Turbotax help center advice, I called NJ tax service center [phone number removed]. The bot gave me a bunch of automated unhelpful options. When I tried reaching a live person got a response that no one was available to take the call and to try at another time.
@wnetmw I am so sorry. I stand corrected! I've looked back at former years' returns and see exactly what you're saying.
So the proof of your timely filing of NJ return would be only the email you received from TurboTax. As for the date you scheduled direct debit from your account, I have no idea how you'd prove that. I certainly agree that TurboTax should include dates scheduled for both federal and state direct debits.
As the Electronic Postmark applies only to the federal return, that's no help either.
EDITED TO ADD: See @DoninGA 's response earlier in this thread to see the date of your e-filed state return as well as the accepted status once the return is accepted.
Hopefully, you have saved screenshots or emails proving when you e-filed your returns. You should be able to see the status of your state return on the state's website.
Sorry I can't be of more help.
Follow up: Since my NJ State return was accepted on April 20th the tax payment was deducted from my bank account on April 21st. I believe as long as the return is accepted the date you have the payment to be deducted would not matter.
