How do I stop TT from itemizing my NYS return?

TT itemized my NYS return but not my Fed. There is no reason it should have done this - my taxes are simple. TT is causing the return to claim no taxes, never happened before and not the case this year. I want to shut this off and make it use the standard deduction so my taxes are correct. How can I fix this and stop TT?

TurboTax will give you the better of the New York standard or itemized deduction. If you don’t want NY itemized deductions your can go into deductions and credits and remove any deductions you claimed their such as mortgage interest, property taxes and charitable contributions.

If you didn’t claim any of those, go into sales taxes change claim the sale tax deduction instead of income taxes.

  1. Type sales tax in Search in the top right
  2. Select Jump to sales tax
  3. Tap Try Sales Tax Deduction Anyway
  4. Select EasyGuide on How do you want to enter your sales tax info?
  5. Tap Done in Places You Lived
  6. Skip Nontaxable Income
  7. On We’ve Chosen a Deduction for You, select Change you deduction

How do I stop TT from itemizing my NYS return?

Wow, I'm not claiming any of those!! It's coming up with "LOSS INCURRED FROM TOT" on line 24  and I have no idea why or where it is getting these numbers from. I'm sure they're incorrect so I just want it to use the standard deduction. How can I change the tax forms so it does this instead? I'm using the desktop Windows version - from past bad experiences with online I thought I could edit forms on the desktop version??
