Home & Business Desktop: Is One state preparation free if I print and mail?

Let's assume we buy this from Sams Club.

Federal part is clear. We got that.

For a single state: Is there any more cost if I choose to download, prepare, print and mail  one state?

It says "Includes 1 state download, State e-file sold separately"

I don't want to E-file. I just want to download 1 state for free, then prepare for free, print and mail.

Please advise. Thanks.

The state e-file fee when using the TurboTax desktop editions is $25 for each state tax return e-filed.  This fee can be avoided if you print and mail the state tax return.

Last year, I was forced to pay extra even to prepare and print. Download may be free. But you cannot print. I wonder if there was anyone else in this situation.

You may have clicked on something like have your account fees paid from your federal refund.

I have been printing and mailing my state tax returns for years from the TurboTax desktop program and have never be required to pay anything.

Or, maybe last year you used the "Online" browser-based product...that always has a state purchase fee with no free state use allowed.
