Hi, I live half the year in the US (Washington State), but I was working for an American company in Europe. How do I file this? Thanks!

Ok - if you report your income under the foreign earned income section, then it will be considered foreign sourced (or you could have checked the box under the W-2 section that it was from working outside the USA.

To claim the FEIE, you would need to be outside the USA for 330 days in a 12 month period but this can be any 12 month period (including beginning dates in 2016.

What if I was outside the U.S. for just under 330 days? I am trying to calculate it exactly, but think I missed the 330 days by just a few. However, it is still telling me I qualify... I am afraid of filing incorrectly and having it be a problem.

Hi, I live half the year in the US (Washington State), but I was working for an American company in Europe. How do I file this? Thanks!

I have included that I was in the U.S. March 10-13, 2017 and then abroad from March 13th, 2017 until December 5th, 2017 when I returned to the U.S. I also included that I was then in the U.S. from December 5th 2017 until January 5th 2018. I was abroad January 5th 2018 until February 26th, 2018. Then, in the U.S. from Feb 26th, 2018 until March 9th, 2018. However, even with these dates, it tells me that I qualify for foreign earned income exclusion... Does this seem correct to you?
Again, I apologize for asking so many questions and really appreciate you taking the time to help me figure this out! 🙂

What about before March 10th 2017?

Before March 10th 2017 I was in the U.S. I had been back in the U.S. since November 7th 2016 (before that I was abroad Jan-Nov 2016)

However, because they only asked for the 12 month period, I did not include this information (and did not see where/how to).

Looking at your foreign days, I only get 319 so I am not sure why the system is allowing the foreign earned income exclusion.
