Hello,
As the title says, I currently have two addresses. My permanent residency/domicile is in Virginia. I just got a new job in NYC and decided to get a second, temporary apartment in NY state to make the commute to my workplace easier. I will be considered a non-resident of NY for the 2020 year as I will not meet the 184-day requirement to be considered a resident of NY for income tax purposes (https://www.tax.ny.gov/pit/file/pit_definitions.htm).
Which address do I give to my employer to use for my W-2/W-4? I currently have it listed with my Virginia address. And when I file my 2020 tax return, it is my understanding that I would file the NY non-resident tax return first, then get a credit to then apply to my Virginia tax return so that I'm not double-taxed on my income. Is this correct?

On your W-4, enter the address you want your employer to use when they mail your 2020 W-2 form to you in January.
Your understanding of how to file your two 2020 state tax returns is correct.
Your employer should be withhold NY tax, not VA. He almost certainly knows that but putting your VA address on the W-4 might prompt your need to verify NY withholding.
