The program says I must add back state taxes that were deducted to arrive at the federal adjusted gross income. I used the Easy Step, so I don't know exactly all of the places where the state tax may have been deducted (I only entered it on our W2s). And, since the program ultimately selected the Standard Deduction, there's no Schedule A for itemization.

If you did not itemize, then the answer would be zero for this question. or, rather, blank unless the screen tells you you to enter zero if none. State tax paid in 2018 can be used as a deduction in your federal itemized deductions but is usually added back in the state program for the state return.
