I've done my taxes using the turbotax desktop version. In addition, I've purchased and done my state taxes.
I now have to do the taxes for a deceased relative, who lived in the same state. I had no problem doing their federal taxes as a second individual return, but I can't seem to get the state taxes to work for a second individual return. DO I HAVE TO PURCHASE A SECOND COPY, OF THE SAME STATE, TO DO A SECOND RETURN FOR ANOTHER INDIVIDUAL? And, if so, will the desktop version allow for two copies of the software for the same state.

If the relative's state tax return is the same as your state tax return there is no need to purchase the same state program again.
No if your relative's state return is for the same state that you already downloaded for yourself, you do not have to purchase a state download again. You would only have to do that if the relative was in a different state.
Not sure why you are having a problem. When you entered information in My Info for your relative, did you choose the state they lived in and received income in? Try going back through the screens for My Info and make sure you chose the right state.
