Do I need to file South Carolina state tax if sold my South Carolina home during yr but no capital gain or no income entire yr? Perm residence in SC only 1st 2 wks of yr.

Only lived in SC till Jan 14th and then become perm residence of Florida (Driver's license) - Florida no state tax.  South Carolina house was sold after Jan 14th but as stated it was under the $250k capital gain limit.  I did not work any during the year, but only received Social Security benefits and withdrawal from investments since I am retired.

Yes, you should file a South Carolina tax return to report the sale of your home there.

While you know you have qualified for the sale of home exclusion, the state will not know.  You will need to file a tax return to report the cost basis and to confirm you meet the requirements.

You will file as a Non Resident and exclude all other income from your SC tax return.
