Cant use my free state on dowloaded Deluxe version?

Hello,

I downloaded TurboTax Deluxe, which includes a free state. I'm trying to submit my taxes, and it doesn't even mention the free state at all. I put in some info on another file before, and it asked if I wanted to use it but I never submitted anything. How do I use my free state return on the first file I'm trying to submit?

Did you download the state program and fill out a state return?

There is a lot of confusion about this.   You get one free state PROGRAM download to prepare unlimited state returns. Then each state return (including the first one) is 19.99 to efile, usually goes up to 24.99 March 1. Or you can print and mail state for free.

So then the free state just gives you access to fill out the forms but not submit them? So either way it will cost more to file a state return, right? Thank you for your help, btw!

No.  In the Desktop program You can print and mail state for free.
