After filing I received my Federal refund pretty fast but the State refund was delayed.
Just before inquiring as to why I hadn't received my direct deposit from the State of California I received a letter from the California Tax Franchise Board stating they needed to confirm my identity before they could process my return.
After verifying the address was valid and the letter originated from a government agency I called and then faxed the required information. The fax took an extremely long time to process 19 pages of information. Just before hanging up the agent with a heavy accent said my return was being audited. The letter only said it was to confirm I was who I was and only needed to verify my identity to prevent fraud.
All information was sent on Mach 21, 2022. I received a deposit notification from the bank for the amount of $317. Immediately my wife contacted the bank to confirm the routing number matched with last years routing number.
The problem is the amount deposited from the State of California is $6600 lower than submitted on the return.
And I never received a letter notifying me the State made changes to my State return.
I posted this inquiry earlier today but could not locate it to edit the post.
What is going on?
Has Turbo Tax been hacked?
Has the State agencies been hacked?
Has the Federal Government been hacked?
This is not making sense that a reputable corporation with a good record should suddenly abandon their commitment to stand behind their product.

You need to contact CA FTB to determine the issue. Call (800) 852-5711 for assistance.
One thought -CA has the ability to take your refund to pay debts that are registered with them. You can call (916) 845-2867, Weekdays, 8 AM to 5 PM. You should also receive a letter explaining what they took and why. Here is the link to the CA Offset Program.
I'm pretty careful about mechanics leans. I've avoided these free solar panel offers because I learned from neighbors who weren't aware of the installation contracts they signed for those free solar panels.
I eventually received the full refund but it was a complicated process. Could be due to the amount of the refund making it a potential target for scammers and hackers.
