CA SDI withheld

I live in California, saw CA SDI withheld in the latest paystub, but I never saw such SDI withheld during earlier employments in California. Is CA SDI tax mandatory for all employees in California?

Employers can elect to use a Voluntary Plan which is administered through a private insurer instead of the state. If the employer paid for the SDI Voluntary Plan premiums, it would still be indicated on your W2.
