Amount of 2019 refund which was applied to 2020 taxes is not showing up as a credit in 2020 return

Our state of Wisconsin 2019 tax return had $450 of our overpaid amount to be applied to our 2020 tax. The amount is not showing up as a credit when calculating the 2020 tax refund amount. How do we make sure the $450 is added to our total refund? Thank you for your assistance.

It's counter-intuitive, but you enter all federal and state estimated taxes and refunds carried over in the same place.

Do a Search (upper right) for estimated taxes paid and click on the jump-to result (Mac users need to find estimated taxes paid in the Topic List).

Look carefully and you should be able to see where to enter state 2019 refunds applied to 2020 taxes.

If it didn't transfer over from last year then enter a refund from last year that you applied to this year here.   BUT first make sure it's not already there.  You don't want to apply it twice.

Federal on left

Deductions and Credits at top

Then scroll way down to Estimates and Other Taxes Paid

Other Income Taxes - Click the Start or Revisit

Next page scroll down to 2019 Refund Applied to 2020

Click Start or Update by the tax you applied

Then you need to click on the state tab and go through state again for it to update.

NOTE:  When you enter a 1099G for a state refund  under income there is a box to check and then fill out the amount of state refund you had applied to next year's estimated taxes.  If you filled that in then do not fill it in again under Deductions and Credits.  It won't show that amount in Deductions but if you enter it again it will be doubled.
