I recently received a letter from the CA Franchise Tax Board regarding my 2015 taxes.
They are proposing additional tax in the amount of $532.14. Reason given is "You did not provide substantiation for the itemized deduction adjustments claimed on your Schedule CA (540)-California Adjustments- Residents.
Any idea what this could mean? Everything always transfers from my Fed to my State. No errors on the return.
Any idea what this means?

CA is so broke they are looking for money anywhere they can get it even if it means they sending out inaccurate letters and hope many people will just pay them ... but call the number on the notice and ask them what this is about if you do not agree with their assessment.
Pull out your copy of the CA return you kept for your records and look at the Schedule CA and see what type of adjustments are showing....this will narrow down what the letter is referring to.
I just got one of these letters for my 2015 California State taxes also! My reason says "You may not deduct income on the Schedule CA that you did not include in the adjusted gross income shown on your federal income tax return." But I'm the same as you, I've always used Turbo Tax and transferred the federal info to the state forms, no errors found. They want almost $700 from me which I do not have! I was a fire victim in 2017 and still recovering, plus two young kids, all on one income. I don't know what to do, but this is incredibly frustrating as time is a rare commodity for me to dive into this and figure it out, not to mention my 2015 taxes burned in the fire...

I received similar letter for my 2015 taxes recently with following text-
"You did not provide substantiation for the income adjustments claimed on your Schedule CA (540), California Adjustments - Residents"
The number in question is $6,624 that was Paid Family leave payment received. I filed the taxes using TurboTax. Does anyone know what substantiation CA FTB need for this?
We are also calling them directly.
If you have Paid Family Leave in 2015, you should send the FTB a copy of your Form 1099-G from the year in question.
Refer to the notice for instructions on how to submit your supporting information.
