1099-NEC

I have a 1099-nec from a trip that I won from a partner of a business that my firm works with. I am not self employed. I enter the information and complete Box 1. The only other information  that shows is in Box 6 and it shows as the state I live in(PA). There are no taxes withheld. It's making me enter other information but still won't let me go through the state return without filling in information about a business I down run. Need help. My federal return is fine.

It depends. If this is considered a 'prize' and not self employment income for services performed at the business your firm works with, you can enter your prize using the steps below.

A form 1099-NEC, itself, indicates self employment. However if this is more like a prize you can enter it by using the steps below and do not enter the 1099-NEC itself. Keep it in your tax file, along with the reasons you received the income,  which will allow you to explain it should need to later. If you need to delete it, use the link below for the TurboTax software you are using for your tax return.

  • If you're using TurboTax Online software and need to delete a form, click here.
  • If you're using TurboTax Desktop software and need to delete a form, click here.

  4. Enter the amount of your prize > Continue

1099-NEC

I did as you recommended but it is still considering me as self employed and doing a Schedule C

Did you delete the Schedule C that was already there?  When you enter income as prize awards a Schedule C is not generated.   You should see this income on Schedule 1 line 8 if you follow the steps that DianeW suggested.

Try going back and deleting the Schedule C that would have been created when you originally entered the 1099-NEC.  To do this you will need to delete the 199-NEC first.

  1. From the left rail menu in TurboTax Online, select Tax Tools (You may have to scroll down on the left rail menu.)
  2. On the drop-down select Tools
  3. On the Pop-Up menu titled “Tools Center,” select Delete a Form
  4. This will show all of the forms in your return
  5. Scroll down to the form you want to delete
  6. Select the Form
  7. Click on Delete.

Always use extreme caution when deleting information from your tax return.  There could be unintended consequences.
