First check your data entry for any typos, especially commas and decimals. And be sure you didn't enter the same W-2 or 1099 form more than once. Are you sure TT says you need form 8959, and not some other form?
Thanks for your reply. Only one W-2 entered, done via import from my payroll, so no typos either. Yes TT def says I need to file 8959 (Additional Medicare Tax).
Okay, you must file Form 8959 if the following applies to you.
• Your Medicare wages and tips on any single Form W-2 (box 5) are greater than $200,000.
Is that the case?
Hey there - that must be it. Thanks for the info!
I had the same issue with turbotax requiring Form 8959 when I don't fit the criteria. IRS indicates income over 250k for married filing jointly. We are not near that threshold, nor do any W-2 boxes exceed 200k.
YEs, this seems to still be the case. The w2s are not over $200k. I can't get the form deleted.
This Turbo Tax FAQ will show you how to delete a form.

HI,
I tried to delete the form. However, the software is computing a $41 tax due. So maybe the issue is that the employer did not compute the tax correctly.
Thank you,
If form 8959 is deleted and comes back, then there is some data entered that is re-generating the 8959.
These are the requirements for filing IRS form 8959:
Who Must File
You must file Form 8959 if one or more of the following applies to you.
Your Medicare wages include your wages and tips from Form W-2, box 5; your tips from Form 4137, line 6; and your wages from Form 8919, line 6.
Your self-employment income includes amounts from Schedule SE, Part I, line 6. But negative amounts shouldn't be considered for purposes of Form 8959.
I am near but not over the 250K combined income for form 8959. I have tried the delete form tool. When i try to file it re-adds the form and says i need to file with deluxe. Please advise how to proceed.
To ensure you did not make any mistakes on your tax return, review the income items inputted on your tax return. See below tips on walking through Form 8959:
Form 8959 consists of three parts. Each part includes a short calculation to figure out how much Additional Medicare Tax you owe if any. You complete only the part of the form that applies to the type of income you received. Fill out:
If you have self-employment income, you file form 8959 if the sum of your self-employment earnings and wages or the RRTA compensation you receive is more than the threshold amount for your filing status. A 0.9% Additional Medicare Tax applies to Medicare wages, self-employment income, and railroad retirement (RRTA) compensation that exceeds the following threshold amounts based on filing status:
If you receive both Medicare wages and self-employment income, calculate the Additional Medicare Tax by:
if Form 8959 is not applicable and you have tried deleting it this Form, follow the link below to clear cache and cookies since information may be stuck.
Thank you for the suggestions. Clearing cache and cookies did not solve the problem.
We do not have self-employment come. Our total income is less thank 250K combined filed married joint.
If you imported/uploaded your W-2, try deleting it and re-entering it manually to see if this resolves your issue. Usually something in your W-2 entry is triggering Form 8959.
