If you make retirement contributions at work or to an IRA and your income is below a certain limit then you might qualify for the retirements savings contribution credit. Please see What is the 2020 Saver's Credit?

Yes, you will have to upgrade to deluxe to get the Savers Credit.

IF the cost of Deluxe (plus another $50 for the state) is more than the credit, you can get rid of it by going thru the Retirement Savers credit questions, and indicate that you were a full time student during 2020. That is allowed.

BUT...if you end up having to upgrade to Deluxe for some other reason anyhow, you can go back thru the Retirement Savers Credit questions again and remove that selection (Assuming you were actually not a full-time student during 2020)
