Why didn't i have California state taxes deducted from a 401K distribution? Federal taxes were deducted, but not state.

Why didn't i have California state taxes deducted from a 401K distribution? Federal taxes were deducted, but not state.

That's (probably) something you have to ask the account's institution to do for you. It's not likely to be a required thing like the federal withholding is.
