Perhaps I misunderstood your concern. I was trying to say that you must enter the Roth 401(k) contribution in the Roth 401(k) Elective Deferrals box on the Individual and Roth 401(k) Plans page in TurboTax, not in the Individual 401(k) Elective Deferrals box. The Roth 401(k) is part of your individual 401(k), technically it's the Designated Roth Account in your individual 401(k), but people say Roth 401(k) for short.
Yes, enter your Roth 401(k) contributions in the box under Individual 401(k). As self-employed, you are both employer and employee.
Thanks for your reply.
When I enter the number under Individual 401 (k) my tax owed goes down, meaning the system is taking a deduction, I think. However, contributions to a Roth are not deductible as I understand it. When I enter the number under Roth 401(k) the taw owed stays the same (no deduction taken). I think the latter is correct.
@dmertz can you please clarify? Thanks
