My husband's social security number is [social security number removed] somehow I entered [social security number removed] how do I fix that after I e-file
You can't fix it after you've already e-filed. However, the IRS should reject your return (they definitely check to see if your SS#s are correct). Once rejected, simply log back into your return and make the correction (and refile).
If by some chance your return gets accepted, you will have to amend your return using Form 1040-X (not available until about mid-February).
Form 1040X can't be e-filed per IRS regulations.
After you finish amending in TurboTax, we'll guide you through printing and mailing your 1040X along with any required attachments.
Three weeks after mailing your amendment, you can start tracking it at Where's My Amended Return? on IRS.gov.
What if it happened on the 2018 tax and it wasn't caught by the IRS?
How do I fix it?
First, verify that you, in fact, have the wrong Social Security Number (SSN) on your tax return for 2018.
If your SSN is incorrect but you didn't get any letter from the IRS, contact the IRS to see what's going on with your 2018 tax return. You could also check your IRS transcript to see what they have as your SSN and related tax documents.
The IRS telephone number is 1-800-829-1040. Expect long wait times since it is tax season.
This happen to me. I e-filed on Saturday and check to see if it had approved it yet and it has wrong social on it. I know i checked it before filing. So i guess i wait to see what happens.
