Is your daughter single or married?

Recipients of gifts owe no taxes on them. If you give more than$14,000 per person per year, you the giver have to file a gift tax return. You won't owe gift tax unless/until your lifetime gifts exceed the $5million+ lifetime exemption from gift tax.,

And the reason DoninGA asked if she is married is because you could each give $14,000 to her and her husband for a total of $56,000 before you would be required to file a gift tax return.

there's no tax on a house downpayment.

You can gift up to $14,000 to a single individual in year without have to complete a Form 709 Gift Tax return.

If the amount of the gift is greater than $14,000 to the individual in a year then filing the Form 709 is required.  Each individual is responsible for his or her own Form 709.  However, there will not be gift taxes owed if the total of all gifts that have ever have been given have not exceeded $5.45 million (2016).

TurboTax does not support IRS Form 709
