You can't populate a form, itself, in TurboTax Online.
However, instead of typing in SEP IRA contributions, type Self-Employed Retirement Plans into the search box, then select the Jump to self-employed retirement plans link.
This will generate a screen called Self-Employed Retirement Plans.
@DoninGA -- It's very kind of you to respond. Perhaps I am only allowed to use tax tools after I pay? As I am trying to finish this my choices on the left are limited to "Tax Home" and "Documents" then a very large space where I imagine something would someday emerge. At the bottom are File an Extension and 3 others, but no Tax Tools. Gosh, this is frustrating. As a self-emplyed person, every other tax product asks if I have or want a SEP. Answers? I have one and I want to contribute a little more!
@JohnW152 Thank you for your reply! Regrettably, when I do so there is no link to follow or no "jump to" heading. There are merely the following:
@hrbsame Sounds like you have completed the tax return or have not returned to the 2022 online tax return that you started.
Anything else on the screen like a statement that reads Hi (your name), let's keep working on your taxes!
If so, click on any of those boxes listed and that will take you back to the 2022 online return.
If that is not what is shown, then scroll down and click on Add a state.
This will take you back to the 2020 online tax return. Then you can use the Tax Tools, Tools, Topic Search...
Wow.
I bow to your breadth of knowledge and your kindness in assisting me -- but also to your persistence (6 yrs in VN will do that for you!)
After I followed your directions, here were the next steps:
Did Billy or Susie make a 2022 self-employed retirement plan contribution? Answer YES, even though you have *not* yet made one. If you say NO, it moves on to a Reforestation Deduction, Infinity and Beyond
Next screen: Did Billy or Susie contribute to an individual or Roth 401k plan? Answer NO and...
Next Screen: Does Billy or Susie *plan* to make a contribution to a Keogh, SEP or SIMPLE retirement plan? YES. Just two more on-target screens, no more trip wires or punji stakes, and you can contribute for your SEP...
THANK YOU.
Thanks again, JL
When you go to the business section of TurboTax, you will see a screen that says Let's gather your business info. You need to choose the Self-employed Retirement option on that page.
Later, you will be asked if you want to contribute to a Keough, SEP or SIMPLE plan:
Then you can enter the amount you will contribute or check the Maximize box and you will see the maximum amount you can contribute to your retirement plan.
