RMD entry blows up Federal Tax

After I enter my withdrawal which is greater than my RMD and Federal Tax payment on withdrawal from my 1099R and go.to next screen TT is asking if I have a RMD on this account and asking me to enter.  When I enter the RMD based on my age it blows up my Federal Tax burden exponentially.  I have already paid Federal tax on this withdrawal.

You had tax withheld from the distributions from the retirement account, just like when an employer withheld tax from your paychecks.  When you enter it all into the software, the calculations are done to reconcile the amount of income you received and the amount of tax that was withheld.  You might owe more or you might get a refund.
