Can you please clarify? Is this interest or dividends?
If they are dividends, they are considered as partial returns of your insurance premiums and not reported on your tax return.
Part of the life Insurance payout was dividends (about $1500) and then about $30 in dividend interest.
Thanks for the reply.
To enter your dividends follow these instructions:
Don't combine the amounts from two or more 1099-DIV forms if they're from the same payer. If you've already entered a 1099-DIV and need to enter a second 1099-DIV, select Add another 1099-DIV and follow the same steps above.
To enter 1099-INT follow these instructions:
I'm no tax pro but I received interest as a beneficiary on a VA life insurance payout and had the same question. I was told by the VA that no part of a VA payout is taxable to the beneficiary. Not the life insurance payout amount, not the dividends, not the interest and not the premium refunds. Was told it is all exempt from taxation and that the VA does not even have 1099 forms.
The interest you earn is not taxable.
