@DoninGA I think I figured it out. My other question is, my leave starts the end of January so will these numbers change starting a new year? I will also be on reduced hours 3 months after the Paid Leave as well. The numbers I am filling out are for 2022 but the leave isn't until Jan 2023.
@DoninGA the Paid Leave agency seems computer clueless in any help lol
@Tasha11284 The W-4S you will be completing is for tax year 2023 so if you expect that your Adjusted Gross Income in 2023 is correct at $5,950 the number calculated is correct for the taxes to be withheld.
@DoninGA I was giving the numbers for expected 2022 income, I don't even have an guestimate what 2023 will be with how long this leave may have me out past Paid benefits. Thank you for your help though. I will go with the numbers I worked out for the forms Paid Leave provided me. I hope I can always adjust it if needed!
Yes, you can always submit a new W-4S if you need to adjust either up or down on the taxes being withheld.
@DoninGA perfect, and I'm sorry, just one more question, when we say federal taxes I want taken out, does this include the coverage for Medicare, SS etc? Are those grouped into that tax ? Viewing some of my pay stubs it looks like they're taking out about $60 a week for federal, social, Medicare, paid leave taxes all combined.

This is Only for federal income taxes to be withheld from the sick pay.
@DoninGA ok thank you. Any idea why it would be so high for just federal-looking at $49 per payment, if no other taxes are being taken out?
@DoninGA Can you assist me with this as well? I am married filing jointly. Based on my initial calculations, I have to withhold more than the CT paid leave benefit check would be. The paid leave benefits are far less than my normal salary. How would I handle this on the form? I can't find any support online for this sick pay form specifically.
Can you be a little more specific with your question? I'm not sure I understand what you are asking?
When filling out the W-4S form for sick leave, the calculation I get at the bottom is larger than the amount I would receive per check for sick leave benefits. Largely since I am calculating my salary for 2023 as my full time salary from 2022. The benefits in CT cap at $840 per week, which I make more than of my regular salary. How would this work?
You need to calculate your 2023 salary to not include any months where you will be receiving sick leave. The form is assuming that you need to have sick pay withheld to cover that entire amount. You don't, so only calculate what you actually should be receiving.
Can you help me with the same situation. My husband is trying to fill out the w4s form and we are totally lost.
Give Form W-4S to the third-party payer of your sick pay, such as an insurance company, if you want federal income tax withheld from the payments. Remember you can adjust the withholding amount at any time. TurboTax Tax Caster can help you estimate total taxes and you can use that information to help calculate your W-4S amount. See the link for the Tax Caster below.
