How can I make the taxable amount of Social Security zero? Due to US-UK tax treaty.

Just attach a blank sheet with your explanation on it. Make sure you clearly indicate which form(s) and line(s) the worksheet(s) go to.

In my experience, the IRS doesn't look at the worksheets unless a subsequent review indicates that there is something amiss.

If the main forms and numbers match what the IRS has received from other quarters and they are internally consistent, then you are probably OK.

Good luck with it, and keep a light on for us for the next time we come across the pond (well, not just "us" but all the yanks).

Thanks again for the tips Bill, my CPA had provided several pages of worksheets which largely just reflected the calcs from the forms anyway.  I'll create something along the same lines for the pertinent numbers.

It's not as though we're talking huge numbers here anyway !

If by chance you ever visit Lytham for the golf championships, let me know and I'll buy you a beer or two !

Best regards Tim
