Question

Recharacterization did not show as deduction on 2024 return but it does today.

Reviewing my 2024 return. I did a $4000 recharacterization from Roth to Traditional IRA. Today, I see the $4000 on line 10 of my 1040 and on Schedule 1 line 20 and a much higher refund. However, on my original return neither of these shows up. The 1099-R was input. Any ideas why this would be? Looks like I might have to amend.  Spoke with Yazmeen and asked for a call back from a supervisor or a CPA but no call as of today. Thank you.

If allowed. the $4,000 will be taken as an IRA deduction unless you explicitly take the non-deductible election. You should have noted that before e-Filing.

If you plan to convert $4,000 to Roth IRA, you don't have to amend.

The end result is the same either way, amended or not amended.

The end result may not be the same either way on your state tax return, depending on your state's rules.
