If you did not take any money out, there is nothing to report.

If you did not take a retirement distribution then you will not get a 1099-R and do not need to file a 1099-R. Please delete any 1099-R information that was carried over:

  1. Login to your TurboTax Account
  2. Click on "Search" on the top right and type “1099-R”
  3. Click on “Jump to 1099-R”
  4. Delete any 1099-R information that got carried over.

When TurboTax asks about the RMD answer none/ that you were not required to take any RMD.

RMDs were waived for 2020. The CARES Act provisions apply to most retirement plans, including traditional IRAs, SEP IRAs, SIMPLE IRAs, 401(k) plans, 403(b) plans, 457(b) plans, profit sharing plans and other defined contribution plans. The RMD suspension does not apply to qualified defined benefit plans.

No.  If you did not receive a 1099R, then no need to report anything.  When asked what portion of distribution was RMD enter none.  No RMD required for 2020.  Make sure and check for 5329.  You should not have an IRA penalty so if you do, delete the form.

Try reviewing your forms in TurboTax and deleting. While in your return in TurboTax:

  • In the left hand column select "Tax Tools"
  • Select "Tools"
  • Select "Delete a form"
  • Review for Form 5329
  • Delete selected form then "Back"
  • Run your Federal review again.
  • Print your return and review amounts.
