To enter your retirement income, Go to  Federal> Wages and Income>Retirement Plans and Social Security>IRA  401 k) Pension Plan Withdrawals to enter your 1099R.

My question is...how do I fill it out if its for entering my son  (Dependents) summer income?

I don't know what to put in each box on the 1099-R Form. Turbo Tax is the one that sent me

the information this morning and said Turbo Tax will walk you through entering your Form 1099-R.

What?   Whose tax return are you preparing?   Yours or your son's?   Did your son receive a 1099R?   Or is it some other kind of 1099?     You do not enter any of your son's income on your own tax return.  What are you really trying to do?

If your son is your dependent then he needs to file his own tax return to seek a tax refund.

MY DEPENDENT HAD A JOB

If your dependent has a W-2 for his after-school job, summer job, etc. you do not include the information on your own return. You can still claim your child as a dependent on your own return.  He/she can file his own return for a refund of some of his withheld wages (he won’t get back anything for Social Security or Medicare), but MUST indicate on it that he can be claimed as a dependent on someone else’s return.  (Supervise this closely or prepare it for him!)

If your dependent’s earnings were over $400 and were reported on a 1099Misc or 1099NEC then he must file a return and pay self-employment tax for Social Security and Medicare.

You might also want to use free software from the IRS Free File versions:

You said your son got money from a Summer job, but a 1099-R is for Retirment income. Please clarify.
