When you file the form 2441 for Child and Dependent Care Credit you need to include the Social Security Number or Federal ID Number of the person or business that provided the care for your child.  You need to get that information from the person or business who provided the child care.

I have the daycare providers EIN, but not the SSN. I tried to enter the EIN in the SSN field but it has too many characters. How and where do I enter it?

Please follow these steps:

  1. When the program asks, Who Provided the Care? Answer An organization
  2. then select None of the above
  3. Continue
  4. Enter the information, name and address
  5. When you get to the EIN, do not enter the dash.

An EIN and an SSN are the same length except for the dashes.
