Deceased person's taxes

Can I E-file taxes for a deceased person. She will be getting a refund back but her estate has been dissolved so the check would have to come to me and I'm her daughter. I'm going to complete all the paperwork and check all the correct boxes that she is deceased but I'm not sure how the check is either direct deposited or mail to me. Will TurboTax walk me through that process and also if there's any other paperwork that I need to manually file or mail in order to complete her taxes.

Provided you are the personal representative and you file a Form 1310 with the return, the check will be made payable to you.

Sorry for your loss.

Deceased person's taxes

Yes, you will file and prepare the final individual income tax return of a deceased person the same way you would if the person were alive. Report all income up to the date of death and claim all eligible credits and deductions.

You need to file  Form 1310 to claim a refund on behalf of a deceased taxpayer. You can file this form in TurboTax.

You should request a paper check for the refund. IRS might reject Direct deposit to an account that is not in the deceased taxpayer's name.
