Can someone explain, before I actually file the return, why the taxes paid through my IRA RMD's not shown up as taxes paid on my return. They are actually paid ?

Need an answer as to why the taxes paid when filing an IRA RMD do not show up on my tax return as taxes paid?

The income taxes withheld from your 1099-R RMD are shown on form 1040, Line 25 Federal income tax withheld from b) Form(s) 1099.

  • They are part of your 2021 estimated tax payments and are deducted from your Line 24, total tax to calculate your refund or amount due.

Please verify that there is a number in Box 4 of your 1099-R. If not that's why.

If so, did you enter the 1099-R manually? If so did you forget to enter Box 4? If you downloaded it, verify that Box 4 downloaded correctly.

(See Box 14/17 for state and local withholding).

@HelenC12 points out where you should see the amounts on box 4 show up on your final return.
