Yes, you can still add supporting details. In step-by-step, with the entry box highlighted, click on the "edit" tab above and scroll down to "Add Supporting Details" (or Crtl+I) then a supporting details window will open up.
BTW, I just received the latest update (2/13/2025) and this SS entry issue has not been foxed yet.
Thanks for the heads up! I used to enter the breakdowns for the descriptions of amounts in box 3 - it was redundant as it is on the form anyways. They really should just fix the issue, how many users are going to waste time getting it to work? The good news is I efiled that return and got a notification that the return was accepted about 10 minutes after filing; only if we could get our refunds that quick!
go to View and then forms and click on Social Sec. That will take you SSA-1099. I had same issue and this did it for me.
How does one delete the SS "offending supporting details"? BTW i have similar issues with update under interest, dividends and stock which had some imported data from my stock brokerage firm. Why hasn't this been corrected by Intuit???
Don't know why Intuit hasn't fixed this yet, but this was my workaround...
After importing my 2023 TurboTax return into 2024, there was no way to update SSA-1099 - clicking update just brought you back to the same place. I went into the Forms view and selected Social Sec and double-clicked on each of the yellow (user entry fields) in the Social Security Benefits Worksheet and deleted any of the supporting details that were carried over from 2023. I also noticed that the Railroad Retirement benefits button at the top of the form was checked when the worksheet first opened; be sure to uncheck this if it doesn't apply to you! I then went back to the Step-by-Step view and clicked the update button and the walk through worked as it should have the first time!
You can delete these forms in TurboTax.
On the menu in the sidebar on the left.
Select Tax Tools
If you wish to delete a 1099-Div or 1099-INT
I had the same inability to enter Social Security income in the 'Wages and Income" section. On clicking 'Update', the screen will come back to the same page! Called TT help; the rep had me update Windows 11; TT OnLine update; then the Chrome update. No changes. 'Screen Share' did not help. The rep had another appointment and said she would call later today.
Out of frustration, I tried the TT community. After reading several answers, I opened View/Forms/Social Sec; the form was blank (zeroes); and entered my numbers.
VOILA! the numbers showed up on the Income page.; and on clicking update, it asked whether we lived in countries that the S does not tax social security etc.
So far, it seems to have solved the immediate problem of entering data!
ksk-
NO, don't enter numbers directly into the form - DELETE IT - and everything will be recreated correctly.

Did as you recommended. However, the deleted Social Security form DID NOT regenerate upon my attempt to update. Had to uninstall and start fresh again.
Every time I try to enter social security income, the just goes to a blank screen
This blank screen never happened to me, try deleting the Social Security form then trying again. If that doesn't work, try re-installing TT. Otherwise ... not sure what else to try.
If you're using TurboTax Online, you can delete the social security worksheet and form. Here's How to Delete Forms in TurboTax Online. Then clear your Cache and Cookies and retry your Social Security entry.
In TurboTax Desktop, you can delete the forms in FORMS mode and retry your SS entry. If this doesn't resolve your issue, here's how to to a Manual Update.
I am here to tell you that as of April 3rd, TT has NOT fixed this problem. I have entered my Social Security in Step-by-Step for the past five years and never had a problem so why, suddenly does my 2024 Desktop Deluxe not include SSA-1099? All it asks about is the Railroad form which is not my problem. No where is there a choice between SSA or Railroad. As I stated, this NEVER happened since 2020 and I did nothing to"populate" the Social Security Form as found under VIEW. This company should be ashamed for not having all the glitches worked out less than two weeks before April 15th. No wonder they have hundreds of 1-star reviews on Amazon where many of us bought our software for the first time WITHOUT A DISC. We then had to sign in to TT and give them our credit card number so they could upsell us at every turn. I hadn't even filled in one line before they were asking for $60 for expert help. This is bait and switch. And, yes, I am mad because I have wasted hours trying to get this SSA-1099 entered. If I wanted to fill in a Form, why would I bother paying for software that is supposed to go Step-by-Step?
